Los Angeles Federation of Labor
The Los Angeles Federation of Labor (LAFed) needed a commercial for the annual Kingdom Day event and parade. Kingdom Day honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as uplifts local civic leaders around Los Angeles.
I had a little under 72 hours to produce the ads, mix the voiceovers and create the visual narrative that lead people to understand that the LAFed is committed to the fight for civil rights, social change and equity for all people.
Kingdom Day Video - 30 Second Ad
The 30 second ad was produced over the course of two days with an emphasis on the themes of unity, peace and the common good. I incorporated stock and archival footage to tie the struggles of the past to the issues of today and opted to use neutral colors to give the video a vintage feel and accent the vaudeville nature of the voice over.
The ad ran on ABC during MLK weekend then was posted on social media.
The video was created with After Effects and Adobe Audition. The voice over was recorded on an iPhone using an Apple headset.

Kingdom Day Video - 15 Second Ad
The 30 second ad was produced over the course of a couple hours with an emphasis on MLK and civic action. I incorporated photos from past LA FED rallies and actions, and archival footage to illustrate the parallels of today's struggles with yesteryears fights for civil equity.
The ad ran on ABC throughout MLK weekend then was posted on social media.
The video was created with After Effects.

Kingdom Day Video - Unused Concept and Animation
While waiting for LA FED to provide the voice over I put together an alternative option that highlighted the major sectors of LA Fed's membership (construction, healthcare, teaching, and city workers). I called it "We Are LA". They wanted to focus on MLK and felt my idea was more about the members.
The video was created with After Effects and Adobe Audition.
